In addition, the prevalence of overweight and obesity among children and adolescents has also increased significantly in many parts of the world, with approximately 38 million children under the age of 5 being overweight or obese in 2019 (WHO, 2021).

Overweight and obesity are associated with a wide range of health problems, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke, some types of cancer, and other chronic diseases (Afshin et al., 2019; WHO, 2021). These conditions can have a significant impact on quality of life and can lead to premature death. In addition to the health consequences, overweight and obesity also have significant economic implications, as they can result in increased healthcare costs and lost productivity (Cawley & Meyerhoefer, 2012).

The causes of overweight and obesity are complex and multifactorial, involving a combination of genetic, environmental, and behavioral factors (Afshin et al., 2019). Unhealthy eating habits, lack of physical activity, and sedentary lifestyles are among the main drivers of the obesity epidemic (WHO, 2021). Other factors that contribute to overweight and obesity include socioeconomic status, urbanization, and food marketing practices, among others (Afshin et al., 2019).

In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of the importance of preventing and managing overweight and obesity. Governments, healthcare organizations, and public health advocates have been working to develop and implement policies and programs aimed at reducing the prevalence of these conditions. These efforts include promoting healthy eating habits, encouraging physical activity, and creating environments that support healthy behaviors (WHO, 2021).
